Overview

Kelp meal is a natural source of over 60 micronutrients, plant growth hormones (cytokinins and auxins), and amino acids. Harvested from Ascophyllum nodosum seaweed, it has been used in agriculture for centuries to improve plant vigor and stress tolerance. In lawn care, it’s the perfect complement to a humic acid program — humic acid improves nutrient availability in the soil, and kelp provides the micronutrients to take advantage of it.

How It Works

Kelp meal feeds soil biology rather than the grass directly. The cytokinins in kelp stimulate cell division in grass roots and shoots, promoting denser turf growth. The micronutrient profile — including iron, manganese, zinc, and boron — fills gaps that synthetic NPK fertilizers miss entirely. Regular applications improve heat and drought stress tolerance by strengthening cell walls and supporting deeper root development.

Application

Apply 5 lbs per 2,500 sq ft monthly during the active growing season. Spread with a broadcast spreader or dissolve in water and spray (kelp extract liquid is an alternative). For best results, pair with humic acid (BioAG Ful-Humix) and apply together as a monthly organic boost. Can be applied at any time — there are no burn risks, no watering-in requirements, and no restrictions around seeding or herbicide applications.
