Community Consensus
Good nutsedge and crabgrass control for warm-season lawns. Easier to find at retail than Sedgehammer. Works on centipede and St. Augustine.
Overview
Image Kills Nutsedge is a widely available retail product for controlling nutsedge, crabgrass, and broadleaf weeds in warm-season lawns. It provides an alternative to Sedgehammer for nutsedge control that is easier to find at big-box stores.
How It Works
Imazaquin inhibits the ALS enzyme in susceptible weeds, disrupting amino acid production and causing slow death over 1-3 weeks. It provides both contact and systemic activity, translocating to root systems.
Grass Compatibility
Safe on centipede, St. Augustine, and zoysia. Do NOT use on bermuda — imazaquin causes yellowing and damage to bermuda grass. If you have a bermuda lawn and need nutsedge control, use Sedgehammer instead.
For Nutsedge
Like all nutsedge treatments, multiple applications may be needed because underground tubers keep sending up new shoots. Apply when nutsedge is actively growing (warm weather, moist soil) for best absorption.
